Regions, Countries and Country Subdivisions

Regions, countries and subdivisions can be defined in your marketplace and seller settings. These can attached to the Create Seller request when a seller is created or they can be used when editing the seller's settings.

You can specify regions, countries and country subdivisions. Generally, countries inherit settings from regions and subdivisions from countries. However, there are exceptions to this.

Restrictions

  • For non-EU countries, you must define the country as both a country and region. For example, for the UK, you would define GB as both a country and region.
  • For the EU, it is sufficient to specify the region alone. However, if a seller is registered in a country and you want to specify this (using the is_seller_registered setting), you must create the country.
  • For countries like Canada who have subdivisions, you must specify the subdivisions if you require them to model your sellers. For example, if you have sellers registered there. For example, if your seller's tax number is specific to a province, you need to create the subdivision and add the setting there.
  • Northern Ireland is included in the region and country Great Britain (GB) for digital goods. if you require settings for Northern Ireland, for example if a seller is registered there, you must define NI as a subdivision of GB.
  • Regions and countries are automatically associated. For example, you do not have to nest the EU member states in the EU region in the request body.

The following regions, countries and subdivisions can be defined in your settings.

Region Codes

You use the ISO codes to build your hierarchy of regions, countries and subdivisions.

Regions and Countries

Some countries like Norway are both a region and a country. You can define settings at both levels.

Countries and Country Subdivisions

You can use ISO codes for country subdivisions. For example, you can use US-TX for Texas. You can also use just the subdivision name, for example TX if you prefer.

You can define subdivisions for the following countries;

  • Canada (CA)
  • India (IN)
  • United Arab Emirates (AE)
  • Unted States of America (USA)

The subdivision values can be used in your settings as well as in the following API fields:

  • billing_address
  • payment_address
  • ship_to_address
  • ship_from_address

The following table lists the supported subdivisions:
